Job Description

POSITION OVERVIEW

The Transportation Associate at KIPP Jacksonville Public Schools is responsible for overseeing the logistics and all transportation-related activities for our growing region of schools. The TA plans, and executes transportation operations and ensures that all policies, procedures, and safety rules are followed.

Success in this role is measured by customer service to families that use KIPP Jacksonville’s free bus transportation services and by meeting key performance metrics in logistics. Extensive knowledge of transportation management systems and analytical skills are crucial for this role.

The TA is a full-time role on the Shared Services Team. This role reports to the Director of Regional Operations. As a member of the Shared Services Team, this individual would be responsible for doing whatever it takes to ensure that students develop the knowledge, skills, and character strengths they need to succeed throughout their education and in the competitive world beyond.

This position is year-round and performs duties as assigned by their manager. Hours will typically be aligned with the school day but may vary based on the season and routes. Some travel to community events during/after normal business hours would be required.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Policy Creation & Implementation

  • Safety expectations on bus and at bus stops
  • Student behavior expectations on bus and remediation plans
  • Requesting and receiving bus service, including initial service and changes thereafter
  • Day to day management of fleet
  • Performance expectations of bus drivers & bus monitors

Route Management

  • Directing activities related to dispatching, routing, and tracking of transportation fleet
  • Planning all student bus routes (corner stops & door to door stops) based on student addresses, which change multiple times a year. This will require:
  • Creating accessible and compliant stops for students
  • Managing change requests from families
  • Creating and sending out notifications for bus stops/times/changes at the beginning and during the school year

Customer Service

  • Upholding the standard of excellence in Operations with bus drivers & monitors
  • Tracking day-to-day timing of incoming and outgoing buses, ensuring timely delivery of students to and from school.
  • Directing investigations to verify and resolve customer complaints in a timely manner. This includes but is not limited to: family complaints regarding bus service, student behavior issues, etc
  • Timeliness and cleanliness of vehicle fleet

Transportation Communication & Expectations

  • Liaising with the front office staff to ensure appropriate communication to staff and families regarding school transportation
  • Collaborating with staff members to formulate and implement transportation-related procedures as well as company revenue goals and customer service objective

Compliance

  • Organizing bus safety drills, including yearly evacuation drills with the bus vendor
  • Complying with transportation-related policies, as well as safety rules, vendor contracts and disputes, and government regulations. This includes promoting safe work activities by conducting safety audits, and attending company safety meetings

People Management

  • Assist in the hiring, training, and day-to-day activities of bus drivers

REQUIREMENTS

  • Solid knowledge of the school transportation industry and logistics
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience working with transport management systems
  • Experience working with contracts and transportation-related government regulations
  • Experience managing others
  • Ability to work well with team members and navigate stressful situations
  • Exemplary written and verbal communication, organizational, and project management skills (i.e. speaking to groups and designing a scope and sequence of written communications to a group)
  • Ability to set large goals and then work to set interim benchmarks to meet targets
  • High level of organization and keen attention to detail
  • Ability to work well with team members and navigate stressful situations

HIGHLY PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • A Bachelor’s degree in logistics, business management, engineering, or related field
  • Experience with fleet or routing management software preferred

COMPENSATION*

  • The salary range for this position is $38,500-$45,000
