The Senior Systems Administrator position in the CNS Office of Information Technology will provide leadership and technical expertise in the areas of cybersecurity and systems administration, while working as part of the systems administration team and acting as liaison with the University’s Information Security Office.


  • Assist in the leadership of the CNS IT cybersecurity team
  • Develop documentation and reporting to guide the systematic remediation of security vulnerabilities in CNS
  • Work with the CISO of the University of Texas at Austin to perform and assess audits and penetration tests on CNS systems
  • Managing servers and services
  • Develop policies, procedures, and reporting for asset and life cycle management
  • Develop policies, procedures, and reporting for patch and configuration management

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience.
  • Three years’ experience managing Linux, Unix or Windows servers. Strong scripting and automation skills.
  • Proven understanding of cybersecurity concepts, processes, and tools.
  • Proven ability to analyze and resolve complex technical issues to meet the needs of clients with widely varying technical backgrounds.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and without day-to-day supervision on highly varied technical tasks with changing priorities.
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively and as a team lead in a highly technical environment.

Relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.

Preferred Qualifications

Five years experience administering Linux, Unix or Windows servers and working as a cybersecurity team lead in a complex technical environment. Experience deploying virtual machines and/or containers. Familiarity with HIPAA compliance and disaster recovery planning.

Salary Range

$85,000 + depending on qualifications
