The John Stewart Company serves as the residential property manager for the Presidio Trust. The Presidio Trust operates under an innovative model that pairs the federal government with the private sector. Finance and accounting in the Presidio are driven by a unique and critical structure, unlike most residential leasing environments. Our Real Estate Financial Manager plays a crucial role in ensuring the financial integrity and transparency of our relationship with the Presidio Trust and residential community.

We are looking for an experienced manager, to direct a small accounting office, continue the customization of property management and accounting software (YARDI), utilize analytical skills to develop revenue and demographic modeling, oversee $65M in collection efforts and produce performance metrics and handle residential audits. Strong interpersonal skills are important and will be utilized with our client (The Presidio Trust) as well as our 3,000 residents.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, supervise, hire, and train the employment of those supervised in accordance with company policies and directives.
  • Oversee and use all information management systems, including U.S. Treasury OTC system, third-party accounting systems (e.g. Yardi, Rent Café, Rent Maximizer and Yardi Energy Solutions).
  • Oversee the collection of rent, utilities, parking and storage unit income, among other revenue.
  • Review and assist as needed in the preparation of periodic reports, including but not limited to; performance metrics, demographic, and delinquency reports.
  • Assist in the development, implementation and maintenance of internal controls and procedures that provide operation and fiscal control, cost savings, projection, planning, forecasting and effective utilization of assets.
  • Oversee the federal deposit process, including verification of deposit accounts.
  • Ensure audit compliance, prepare or assist in the preparation of requested documents and work with auditors as needed for timely completion.
  • Assist with special projects as assigned by the Presidio Trust, Regional Director or corporate office.
  • Working with the Regional Director, identify delinquent accounts requiring eviction process and implement that procedure.
  • Continuously work to improve accounting process efficiency and effectiveness.
  • Supervise between 2-3 full-time accounting and data management team members.
  • Review resident final closing statements.

Oversee internal IT deployment and programs.

Qualifications

  • Accounting Principles – Ability to create and maintain supporting audit records in an organized manner. Ability to reconcile cash reports. Ability to manage and oversee development of financial statements.
  • Business and Management Principles — Knowledge of business and management principles involved in strategic planning, resource allocation, human resources modeling, leadership technique, production methods, and the coordination of people and resources. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and apply those principles to real estate analysis.
  • Problem Sensitivity/Deductive Reasoning — Apply good judgment, analytical thinking, and technical skills to assure best quality financial reports. Ability to determine when something is failing or is likely to fail and then apply general rules to specific problems to produce solutions
  • Written Comprehension and Expression — Ability to read, understand and communicate information and ideas in writing so others will understand. Ability to translate financial information to non-financial staff members, when necessary.
  • Oral Comprehension and Expression — Ability to listen to, understand and speak so others can understand ideas and information presented verbally.
  • Computer Skills – Must appreciate and enjoy technology and the efficiencies that is offers. Must also be a regular user of Microsoft Office products (an expert user of Excel).
  • Other Skills/Beneficial Qualifications – Experience administering YARDI databases. Ability to demonstrate excellent judgement, attention to process and detail; confidentiality, tact, and ability to deal with sensitive issues in a timely manner.
  • Office Schedule – This position requires about 60% in office time and 40% remote work. During the first six months of starting the position a slightly higher in office time may be required. The office is located in the Presidio.
