CORE RESPONSIBILITIES AND TASKS

This position is responsible for managing the engineering function of the plant. Provides engineering support for the purchase, construction, installation and modification of production facilities. Incumbent must manage the budget of the Engineering Department, while preserving assets, reducing operating costs, and increasing equipment up time (reduce downtime). This position directly impacts equipment life, operating costs, the safety of all employees, and the environmental impact on the community.

Major Tasks Performed:

Prepares and manages the capital budget for the facility.

Prepares capital asset requests for new equipment or facility modification including justification.

Analyzes packaging equipment for effectiveness and submits recommendations on cost reduction and production feasibility.

Provides engineering support for all safety programs.

Develops layouts, specifications, utility requirements, conducts time studies and prepares cost estimates for new installations and facility revisions.

Develops drawings and specifications that will facilitate equipment layout by outside contractors or internal staff.

Coordinates contract negotiations for work to be performed by outside contractors and ascertain that engineering specifications are maintained as the project progresses.

Responsible for administering the Contractor Safety Program and developing a Safety Evaluation on all contractors.

Supervises the installation or modification of equipment by contractors or the maintenance department.

Establish a continuing preventative maintenance program for all new and revised installations.

Responsible for all aspects of the Maintenance Department including but not limited to:

Planning and directing the supervision of the team members and activities of the Maintenance Department to ensure prompt and accurate response to equipment and facility maintenance needs.

Training and developing skill levels of maintenance staff.

Reviewing and analyzing production, quality control, maintenance, and operational reports to determine causes of production problems using eAM data.

Coordinating purchasing of supplies, equipment services for the Maintenance Department.

Investigates new plant engineering processes and techniques for application in the operation of the plant.

Track, report and explain energy use on a monthly basis.

Follow all EHS regulations and guidelines.

Actively participate in SMART and other safety programs.

Actively participate in 5S programs.

All other duties as assigned by Management.

Develop great working relationship with manufacturing

Develop a highly motivated team

Compliance with OSHA and environmental regulations

Ensure fully trained and capable Maintenance staff and maintains a positive work enviornment.

Maintains eAM work orders & PM programs.

Meet budget guidelines

Compliance with S-W programs such as Rx, eAM, CIP, Six Sigma support, HKE, Standard Work, etc.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS

FORMAL EDUCATION:

Required:

Must have a four year Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution

Must have at least 2 years of experience in Engineering or a related field

Preferred:

Preferred degrees are Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering and Industrial Engineering. Other Engineering, Mathematics, Science or Military Service technical equivalent may be considered

Previous supervisory experience is preferred

Expertise in project management

KNOWLEDGE & EXPERIENCE:

Required:

Experience applying and leading Continuous Improvement processes such as 6 Sigma, Lean, A27Root Cause and/or Reliability Engineering

Six Sigma Certification is preferred

Willingness to relocate if in the future considered for promotional opportunities is preferred

TECHNICAL/SKILL REQUIREMENTS:

Required:

Must remain organized and be capable of prioritizing daily demands, along with accomplishing long-term objectives.

Proficiency in the Microsoft Word and Excellent

Excellent written and verbal communication skills

Preferred:

Experience submitting Fixed Capital Asset (FCA) requests
