Job Overview

TE Connectivity’s R&D/Product Development Engineering Teams conceive original ideas for new products, introduce them into practice. They are responsible for product development, and qualification from market definition through production and release; assist in the qualification of suppliers for new products to ensure suppliers deliver quality parts, materials, and services for new or improved manufacturing processes; conduct feasibility studies, testing on new and modified designs; direct and support detailed design, testing, prototype fabrication and manufacturing ramp. The R&D/Product Development Engineering Teams provide all required product documentation including, but not limited to, Solid Model, 2D/3D production drawings, product specifications, and testing requirements. They create and modify detailed drawings and drafting or conceptual models from layouts, rough sketches or notes and contribute to design modifications to facilitate manufacturing operation or quality of product. Typical fields of expertise include: materials, mechanics and systems, electrical, optics, chemistry, software, automation systems, packaging, testing and measurement, and manufacturing of electrical, mechanical and electronic components, products, and their integration into systems.

What You’ll Be Doing….

  • Oversee global activities for the Software and Electrical Controls engineering resources responsible for New Product Introductions (NPI) as well as Sustaining engineering functions.
  • Drive continuous improvement to reduce NPI cycle time & improve on-time, on-cost, on-quality delivery of product developments.
  • Collaborate with and oversee the interaction of the Software and Electrical Controls engineering team with other functions including Product Management, Project Management, Marketing, Quality, Operations, Corporate Technology, other TE Business Units, etc.
  • Foster an environment of teamwork, collaboration, and shared goals and success.
  • Manage engineering resource activities, capital projects, budget, and department costs.
  • Provide hands-on technical leadership through the product development cycle and recommend design approaches as needed.
  • Provide input to Product Business Plans and Technology Roadmaps as well as resource plans to support the technology strategy.
  • Manage Intellectual Property (IP) associated with the development of innovative new designs (invention disclosures, patent applications, trade secrets, customer agreements, innovation recognition).
  • Communicate technical information and schedule to senior leadership team.
  • Drive a culture of continuous improvement, accountability, and execution.
  • Maintain and adhere to all appropriate safety specifications, internal and external regulatory requirements, and customer requirements. Assure proper documentation storage within TE software systems.

What your background should look like:

  • Bachelor’s or master’s degree in an Engineering discipline or equivalent.
  • Engineering leadership experience in an innovation implementation environment.
  • Experience in R&D engineering or new product development (NPD) engineering role with a proven track record of successfully driving engineering projects to meet business objectives on-time and on-budget.
  • Strong analytical skills, attention to detail, high degree of adaptability, and technical problem-solving abilities.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively organize, prioritize and accomplish multiple tasks, make decisions, and solve problems independently.
  • Ability to build strong working relationships and collaborate effectively.
  • Experience in building and mentoring effective teams.
  • Demonstrated practice of make-versus-buy analysis
  • Experience in continuous integration/delivery and product requirement management systems is preferred.
  • Background in machine controls, electro-mechanical systems, software development, and/or automation is preferred.
  • Global work experience, working with multicultural and cross functional groups.
  • Passion to create a solution for the customer.
  • Fluency in English required (read, write, and speak).
  • Ability to travel locally and internationally when required to support project objectives.
