Harborview Mental Health and Addictions Services has an outstanding opportunity for a Housing Specialist to assist adults with individualized housing services by developing and maintaining permanent, community-based housing for clients of the outpatient mental health clinic. A Housing Specialist/Mental Health Practitioner will be expected to be able to work with a diverse clientele.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Assist clients of outpatient mental health services with individualized apartment searches, rental applications, subsidy paperwork, accessing community housing resources, etc.
  • Work with potential/existing landlords, apartment managers and community housing assistance programs to develop/maintain new existing housing relationships.
  • Work with the Seattle Housing Authority, Shelter Plus Care Administration, Set-Aside Programs, Section 8 Program and others.
  • Facilitate and co-facilitate housing support groups.
  • Provide individual support services to clients.
  • Provide consultation and training to clients and clinical staff regarding housing subsidies and various forms of housing assistance.
  • Attend interdisciplinary team meetings as well as community meetings to discuss and promote housing services.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • A Master’s Degree in behavioral sciences, such as psychology, psychiatric nursing, occupational therapy, vocational or educational counseling, or social work OR Bachelor’s Degree in nursing or a behavioral science AND three years’ of experience in the direct delivery of professional mental health care.
  • Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license/certification/registration.

ADDITIONAL DEPARTMENT-SPECIFIC JOB REQUIREMENTS:

Registration as either an 1) Agency Affiliated Counselor, 2) Licensed Social Work Associate Advanced or 3) Licensed Social Work Associate Independent Clinical by the State of Washington within 90 days of employment

DESIRED:

  • Demonstrate working knowledge of local housing resources including, but not limited to, Shelter Plus Care, Section 8, HUD, SHA and local Housing Organizations. Willingness/ability to develop new housing partnerships within Seattle and King County.
  • Knowledgeable about tenant/landlord law/knowledge of local, state and federal eligibility guidelines for housing.
