Job description: Job Description: This position oversees a team of Marketing Account Specialists who manage the promotion of state-specific SelectHealth commercial and governmental insurance products and services, including Medicare Advantage, Medicaid, Federal Employee Health Benefits Plan, Individual, Large and Small Group, Dental, Wellness, etc. These products are sold in multiple states through SelectHealth contracted insurance agents, online federal and state health insurance exchanges, and SelectHealth direct sales and account management teams. This position is also responsible for supporting member retention through engaging member communications including new member onboarding and ongoing member education.


Manages a Marketing and Communications team supporting the growth and retention of SelectHealth membership for all commercial and governmental health insurance products and services in each of the many states SelectHealth does business. This position works closely with managers, directors, executives and others within SelectHealth marketing, sales, product development, finance, Medicare Advantage, Managed Medicaid, and with representatives of established clinical partners in each state to support the retention of existing SelectHealth members and addition of new members.

Job Essentials

Marketing Plan and Communication Strategy: Ensures the Marketing Account Specialists are working with the business owner(s) and key leaders, to lead the efforts to develop an annual marketing plan and communication strategy, which provides direction to the client for their product/service goals and approved initiatives. Works closely with staff and internal business owners to create and oversee the management of annual marketing campaigns for each product. Ensures all aspects of the marketing process align with the business units, including Sales and Agent Relations that it supports. Oversees marketing efforts using a wide variety of medium, including digital, to promote SelectHealth products and services. It ensures successful campaign planning and implementation and oversees the development of marketing and sales tools, which effectively promote, sell, educate, and engage the public, employers, and SelectHealth members.

Research Strategy: Ensures the Marketing Account Specialists develop a research plan to ensure consumer and customer input is received supporting the annual line of business marketing plan. Provides customer feedback to business owners and other leaders to improve marketing and member communications. Identifies and collaborates on new opportunities and requirements for gathering consumer research. May lead research projects and/or manage research vendors as needed.

Marketing Resource Oversight: Ensures collaboration between the Marketing Account Specialists and multiple Marketing teams, including Creative Services, Strategic Communications, Public and Community Relations as well as eBusiness, to oversee the development of and successful launch of the prioritized and budgeted client marketing initiatives including websites, mobile applications, product promotion and advertising, etc. Using strategic knowledge of company goals and initiatives, works with team members, clients, and appropriate leaders to prioritize resources. Ensures that the work produced by the team portrays the expected message and outcome through engaging and compelling design, content, and placement. Additionally, this position ensures marketing materials meet regulatory, compliance, branding, and legal requirements.

Project Management: Provides oversight for the Marketing Account Specialist use of project review and approves tracking software to create project plans for the prioritized initiatives and ensure Marketing resources are appropriately allocated to meet deadlines and budgets. Provides feedback to appropriate leaders as needed when staff production issues occur. Manages projects, which utilize other Marketing teams and leads cross functional SelectHealth teams in successful completion of projects. Provides status reports to appropriate leaders and business owners. May be asked to lead project management efforts for large, very visible executive-sponsored projects. Facilitates a collaborative environment within Marketing between the Marketing Account Specialists and our creative services partners including: graphic designers, copywriters, web teams, and with external partners including advertising agencies. Together, these resources create ad campaigns, external presentations, direct mail campaigns, online advertising and web promotion, email campaigns, marketing brochures, and member communications. This position also leads a collaborative and coordinated partnership with our Intermountain Healthcare Marketing and Communications colleagues to cobrand and cross-promote SelectHealth and Intermountain Healthcare products and services.

Budget Management: Works with the Marketing Account Specialists and the business owner(s) to develop annual budget plan/s and manage the approved budget each year. Encourages team to identify and oversee the implementation of cost reduction initiatives. Works with the marketing production manager to ensure vendors are meeting quality and cost expectations. Responsible for the planning, creation, tracking, and management of an annual marketing budget that exceeds two million dollars.

Management: Manages, mentors, and coaches Marketing Account Specialists to successfully meet their business responsibilities and supports their opportunities for career growth. Duties include: hiring, disciplinary tasks, performance evaluations and improvement, goal setting, one-on-one employee management, workload management, project oversight and vendor management including associated projects, budgets, contracts, and Statements Of Work.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in communications, English, marketing, public relations, or business. Degree must be obtained through an accredited institution. Education is verified.

Seven years of experience in marketing, account management, ad agency, or retail promotion, health insurance, healthcare communications, and public relations.

Seven years of experience in managing marketing, communications, or public relations projects.

Demonstrated excellence in written and verbal communication skills.

– and –

Demonstrated excellence in project management, leadership roles, problem resolution, and relationship building skills.

Experience with advertising placement and print production processes.

– and –

Demonstrated detailed understanding of the SelectHealth products and services.

– and –

Demonstrated advanced knowledge of word processing and other office software, desktop publishing programs, and multi-media presentation tools.

Experience with digital marketing including writing, design, strategy, and placement.

– and –

Demonstrated ability to work autonomously.

– and –

Demonstrated experience managing a multi-million-dollar department budget.

Preferred Qualifications

Master’s degree in communications, marketing, English, or a communications-related field.

Ten years health insurance or healthcare industry marketing experience.

Sales experience.
