UNC Creative, the award-winning in-house design agency for the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, is seeking a manager to lead the team. Reporting to the Director of Strategic Resources, the Manager of UNC Creative is responsible for managing the staff and the various services that UNC Creative provides to the University, including creative strategy, visual design, digital design, digital publications, branding and identity. The Manager will market the team’s services and expand or adjust the offerings as necessary to ensure their work is meeting the needs of campus. The Manager will provide creative strategic counsel to University schools and units and oversee the production of materials and assets that meet messaging goals. Up-to-date graphic design expertise and understanding of modern visual style and aesthetics is essential. This is a great opportunity for someone who believes in the importance of professional design for communications and the power of a strong brand, and will lead the team in these areas.

UNC Creative has several digital offerings and marketing endeavors, including websites and an e-newsletter, and this position and must have strong digital expertise to support and maintain these efforts. Knowledge of best practices, issues and trends in website design and development, as well as the ability to stay current with web technology and design is essential.

The Manager has overall fiscal responsibility for the receipt-supported budget, including authority to determine how to expend the funds. The Manager must ensure the budget is balanced and the department reserves are steady.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in a discipline related to the area of assignment; or equivalent combination of training and experience. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.
Required Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience

Demonstrated experience providing staff and budgetary oversight and executing sometimes complex design projects under tight deadlines. Demonstrated experience providing a high level of customer service in support of the clients’ imperatives.

This position requires a high level of attention to detail, organization, professionalism and discretion. Excellent customer service skills, the ability to adapt easily, follow through, complete tasks and resolve issues are essential. This position necessitates a high level of marketing insight and experience, as well as digital and web expertise to support and maintain the variety of services offered by the team. This position must have the ability to maintain information with great accuracy and detail, the ability to develop and maintain positive working relationships and the ability to handle work in a highly professional and confidential manner. Up-to-date graphic design expertise and understanding of modern visual style and aesthetics is essential.
Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience

Experience in higher education or similar academic/research setting.

The ideal candidate will have experience with leading a creative team, project management and digital strategy. Hands-on content creation, including professional writing, editing, design and/or brand experience, is a plus.
