Job description: We’re seeking a sharp legal assistant for our busy law firm who can help our attorneys and paralegals assist our clients and keep the office running smoothly. You’ll work with the team to prepare a variety of legal documents, and handle office correspondence like answering emails and phone calls, scheduling meetings and travel, and reminding the team of upcoming deadlines. Responsibilities: Make travel arrangements, schedule meetings and appointments for the team, such as depositions, and coordinate with outside vendors for events Take care of administrative tasks and office correspondence by answering phone calls and emails, communicating with opposing attorney offices, taking dictation, and informing the team of upcoming deadlines Work with attorneys and paralegals to create various legal documents, including pleadings, motions, subpoenas, affidavits, contracts, and briefs for case preparation, and proofread documents when requested Conduct legal research, when necessary, with guidance from attorneys and paralegals Process client billing properly using daily time records with help from the accounting department • Serve as the backup for answering incoming phone calls • Take messages and pass them along to the appropriate parties • Daily voicemail maintenance • Open and close client files • Filing for case files • Help with the mail • Filing legal documents with the Courts • Send welcome packets to new clients when asked • Update client information in our case management system • Send appropriate cards/gifts to current clients; and • Other tasks as assigned This position is a mix of working in the office and running errands, and we anticipate that this position will begin at approximately 35-40 hours/wk and has the potential to become full-time. Qualifications: Must be able to type at least 50 WPM Associate’s degree, or some college is preferred; high school diploma or equivalent is necessary At least 1-2 years of previous experience in a law firm setting performing administrative tasks Proficient with MS Office products Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment and meet deadlines with quick turnaround times • We are a small but fully staffed law firm with one attorney (We are currently looking for two more associate attorneys to join us.), a case manager, one senior paralegal, one paralegal, an intake specialist, and a billing specialist. As the Legal Office Assistant, you are here to be the go-to person for office assistance.You are responsible for all of his or her taxes and other expenses.Qualifications: We are a fun team that respects each other but who also wants to do something meaningful and important. We are professional and serious when the situation warrants it. • Must be a resident of the Upper Marlboro area in Prince George’s County, Maryland • Must have legal office experience • Must have a pleasant phone voice • Must be detail-oriented • Must be patient • Must be punctual • Must not get flustered when the day does not go the way you were expecting • Must be willing to learn software applications • Must be familiar with mail practices • Must be willing to drop everything and file documents with the Courts • Must be willing to drop everything and run unexpected errands • Must be willing to act as the backup to our Legal Intake Specialist, when necessary • Must have a valid driver’s license • Must have a reliable vehicle • Must have valid automobile insurance that includes medical coverage for yourself and others involved in a vehicle accident while you are working; and • Must be familiar with Google Drive and G-Suite products Preferences • Family law, personal injury, and/or criminal law experience, are highly desiredCome join us!
