Lecturer, Non tenure track, Environmental Science

About the Position

The Department of Environmental Science at Baylor University seeks an outstanding environmental scientist at the rank of Lecturer. Environmental Science is a growing and dynamic department at the nexus of Baylor University’s strategic vision. Our Department has strengths in the areas of environmental assessment, management, policy, and health. Much of our current expertise involves biotic and abiotic processes in water and air. We seek a faculty member who can augment our capabilities in these areas and expand our capacity to engage undergraduate research.

This is a full-time teaching position. The successful candidate may serve as a supervisor for undergraduate research projects. The position carries the service responsibilities of regular Baylor faculty, including representing the department at graduation and undergraduate recruitment events, and assignments on departmental and university committees. The position is slated to begin in August of 2023.

Qualifications

The successful candidate will be a committed educator who can relay complex environmental concepts to an excellent cohort of undergraduate students. Candidates must have completed a master’s degree in an environmentally-related field. A Ph.D. or other appropriate terminal degree is preferred. Degrees in humanities and social sciences with majors in areas such as environmental policy, ethics, or theology are acceptable, as are professional degrees in fields such as environmental law, environmental health, or environmental planning. Preference will be given to candidates with previous teaching experience at the collegiate level, and evidence of exceptional teaching performance. Enthusiasm for working closely with undergraduates, including freshmen, is essential to this position.

How to Apply

Submit a letter of application, a current curriculum vitae, a 1-2 page teaching philosophy, a list of courses in our curriculum that you could teach, and a copy of the official transcript showing the highest degree conferred (if the Ph.D. is in progress, a copy of the official transcript of completed Ph.D. hours should also be submitted). Also, include names, addresses, emails, and phone numbers of three individuals from whom you have requested letters of recommendation. Applications received by October 22, 2022 will receive full consideration, with review continuing until the position is filled.
