ROLE

We need an experienced Law Librarian to work 20 hours per week. In this role, you will support the U.S. Attorney’s Office – Eastern District of New York (USAO-EDNY). The USAO-EDNY represents the United States in criminal and civil legal matters. The office prosecutes crime, provides affirmative civil enforcement, defends the United States, and represents the government’s interests in litigated matters in Brooklyn, Queens, Staten Island and Long Island. RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provide Librarian services for updating and maintaining the law library collection
  • Catalog legal loose-leaf pages, pocket parts, replacement volumes or new editions, as well as non-print materials
  • Track law books/materials that are coming inbound and outbound from the library
  • Receive, verify vendor orders, and record new library materials, using basic excel workbooks
  • Claim new orders from JMD library and organize them per JMD library standards
  • Claim missing supplementary materials or undelivered orders from JMD Library
  • Organize new books for circulation, generating labels for spine and book pockets
  • Scan files of confirmations of receiving the books
  • Re-shelve books, periodicals, and newspapers
  • Maintain physical appearance of the library
  • Organize confirmations for shipments received inbound and outbound, and store them in our database
  • Dispose of old volumes of law books/materials and replace with new volumes
  • Assist EDNY staff in finding specific law materials
  • Comply with IT security policies, procedures, and requirements
  • Deal with confidentiality and non-disclosure DOJ Information

KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS

  • Knowledge of library terminology and standard library practices
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite software (Word, Excel, and Outlook)
  • Capable of lifting boxes that weight 10 to 20 pounds
