Job Description

This position reports to: Head of Lightstep Marketing


We are seeking an experienced content marketing manager to define and deliver our content strategy for Lightstep. We need a creative and compelling storyteller that will thrive as an individual contributor on our product marketing team. The role will be responsible for delivering high performing content that can be used across different marketing programs and channels to concisely communicate our brand and product messages in compelling ways.

The ideal candidate is a self-starter who demonstrates attention to detail and quality. The candidate needs the ability to clearly articulate our value and messages in a variety of content formats for our key buyer personas.

What you get to do in this role:

Partner with subject matter experts to develop original content in a variety of formats, from blog posts and website pages to ebooks, white papers, infographics, videos, and more

Maximize the value and reach of our content by turning high-performing assets into a library of derivative pieces for use in multiple channels

Build and execute content strategies that support and amplify our short- and long-term marketing initiatives and campaigns

Collaborate closely with product marketing, demand gen and growth marketing to map and optimize content across the buyer journey to drive acquisition and leads.

Ensure created content is on-brand, consistent in terms of style, quality and tone of voice. Be a steward of best practices in messaging, grammar, writing, and style

Provide editorial support to SMEs as they develop content for our blog.

Measure and report on content performance; optimize based on results

Help develop standards, processes, and tools to drive greater efficiencies in how we work and operate as a cross-functional team

Stay on top of content marketing trends and bring new ideas for us to explore and test


To be successful in this role you have:

  • 8+ years of relevant experience

5+ years of editorial / content experience, ideally in the B2B tech / software space.

Experience writing for a variety of personas, including practitioners and developers who favor straightforward, direct language.

Portfolio of published work that demonstrates exceptional writing skills and ability to translate complex topics into simple, digestible content

A thinker and a doer mindset—excited about driving strategy while simultaneously rolling up your sleeves to write and edit content in a variety of formats

Ability to multi-task and prioritize projects in a dynamic, fast-paced environment

Collaborative team player with great interpersonal skills and the ability to work cross-functionally

Ability to deliver feedback thoughtfully and receive it gracefully

Strong project management skills and attention to detail

Aptitude for using different publishing and collaborating tools.

Occasional travel

Natural empathy for, and understanding of, needs of customers across multiple types of organizations and industry verticals.

Creative messaging skills based on value, use cases, and customer outcomes.

Passion about our products and solutions and the possibilities of shaping the future of how people work.

The ability to be both hungry and humble.
