Job summary

Alexa Smart Home Decision Science (SHDS) is part of the broader Smart Home Ambient Intelligence (SHAI) team and is focused on making Alexa the voice-activated user interface for the home. Alexa helps fulfill many customer needs, from home security and entertainment to providing information and shopping – all using just your voice. Alexa works with many Smart Home devices – customers can ask her to switch on a lamp, turn on the fan, dim the lights, or increase the temperature. We are evolving Alexa into an intelligent, indispensable companion that automates daily routines, simplifies interaction with appliances and electronics, and alerts when something unusual is detected.

We are seeking a Business Analyst to join our team. The successful candidate will play an important role in prioritization of business requests, project delivery and stakeholder management, working closely with diverse teams across Alexa including Product Managers, Engineering Leads and Finance.

Key job responsibilities

  • Requirement gathering with internal stakeholders and supporting strategic project planning.
  • Lead business review meetings with Smart Home leaders and stakeholders.
  • Leveraging data to deliver customer insights.
  • Designing and developing business review reports and dashboards.
  • Working with business Intelligence counterparts for metric definitions.
  • Building out self-service solutions, visualization tools and finance reports.
  • Supporting continuous business performance optimization by driving experiments to form actionable recommendations.
  • Presenting recommendations to business leaders to drive decisions.

About the team

The Smart Home Decision Science team provides decision guidance for the Smart Home organization by delivering analytics that influence business decisions. This role will be responsible for building models that analyze and predict customer behaviors, owns project delivery and ongoing performance optimization. This role will also work closely with diverse teams across Alexa including Customer Research, Product Owners, Engineering Teams, Marketing and Finance.

The Smart Home Decision Science (SHDS) team combines the power of Smart Home BI engineering resources with Data Science to provide org-wide customer insights analytics. The team’s charter includes: 1) ownership of data infrastructure and data models, 2) self-service data services, 3) business reporting (e.g. xBRs, dashboards) and 4) exploratory data analysis, statistical modeling and machine learning algorithms to deliver customer insights analytics.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • Experience defining requirements and using data and metrics to draw business insights
  • 3+ years relevant experience in financial/business analysis
  • Experience in SQL

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • 3+ years of experience as a Data Analyst, Business Analyst or BI Engineering role
  • Experience conducting large scale data analysis to support business decision making
  • Strong verbal/written communication and data presentation skills, including an ability to effectively communicate with both business and technical teams
  • Be self-driven, and show ability to deliver on ambiguous projects with incomplete or dirty data.
  • An ability and interest in working in a fast-paced and rapidly-changing environment
  • Passionate about scalable and future-proof processes, systems and data analytics.
