For 130 years, Wellspring Family Services has worked to end family homelessness by making it easy for families and employees in crisis to access the services they need to regain stability. A non-profit, multi-service agency, Wellspring serves children, youth, and families primarily in King, Pierce and Snohomish Counties.

Wellspring has five primary programs. The Housing Services division provides eviction prevention and rehousing services to vulnerable populations in three counties. The Early Learning Center delivers trauma-informed early childhood education to children, ages 1 to 5, who have experienced homelessness. The Family Store supplies clothing, toiletries, toys, diapers, and baby equipment to low-income families so they can better afford rent and other basic needs. Our Counseling program delivers mental health services to insured individuals through three offices in King County. Our Employee Assistance Program connects employees with the resources they need to address crises, retain housing, and remain employed

Position Purpose:

The Accounting Manager will track and evaluate daily and month-end accounting activities and reporting. The Accounting Manager’s responsibilities include establishing and enforcing proper accounting methods, policies, and principles. This position will regularly collaborate with the Assistant Controller and report to the Controller.

Essential Functions:

  • Helps prepare month-end entries, reviews, and reconciles accounts as assigned complete audit and adjustment activities.
  • Undertakes special projects under the guidance of the Controller.
  • Assists with the application of payments to the correct invoices and accounts.
  • Prepares and distributes month-end financial reports to management. Assists with the variance analysis – actual to budget.
  • Supports the operations staff in a back-up role for accounts payable and accounts receivable.
  • Helps to administer the accounting aspects of Wellspring’s financial ERP system.
  • Work with department managers to support and coordinate efforts toward monthly close and other projects.

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Provide coverage and backup for team members as needed to ensure responsive, and continuous operations at all times.
  • Prioritize diversity, equity, and inclusion as well as trauma informed care as systems are developed and scaled.
  • Possible future assignment to supervise staff, including day-to-day performance management, time and attendance supervision, and annual professional development coaching.

Minimum Requirements:

Candidates must meet all of the following qualifications to be considered for this position:

  • At least 3 full years of experience in an Accounting Manager position with an organization with at least $10 million in revenue.
  • At least 1 full year of experience with fund accounting and managing multiple revenue streams from diverse funding sources
  • Strong skills using Microsoft Office suite (Word, Excel, Outlook) and ability to learn new programs quickly.
  • Capable of effectively supervising others by establishing clear expectations and regularly giving honest feedback. Knows how to address performance issues clearly and in a timely manner.
  • Highly developed awareness of diversity, equity, and inclusion, with evolved ability to practice appropriate, relevant, and thoughtful strategies for working with diverse populations.
  • Strong organizational skills with a high attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Ability to be flexible and adaptable to changing business needs and priorities.
  • Commitment to the mission that shows through a strong work ethic and the ability to complete tasks within expected timeframes or communicate and address roadblocks quickly and effectively.
  • MBA and/or experience in a senior accounting role in a non-profit and healthcare setting a plus.

Preferred Qualifications:

The following qualifications have been identified as particularly beneficial and candidates who have attained any of them will be preferred in the hiring process. The successful candidate who meets one or more of these preferred qualifications will be eligible for pay rate premiums*:

  • 5 full years or more experience in an Accounting Manager position in an organization with at least $10 million in revenue, or 3 full years or more experience in an Accounting Manager position in an organization with at least $20 million in revenue.
  • Active Chartered Global Management Accountant, Certified Management Accountant, or Certified Public Accountant certification (CGMA, CMA, or CPA)
  • Wellspring does not engage in pay negotiation as this practice contributes to pay inequity. Salary for the successful candidate is calculated by Wellspring. Premiums may be applied for candidates that are able to verify their achievement of preferred qualifications. Refer to the position premiums on page 5 for premium rates.

Pay Premiums

Standard Annual Starting Salary: $97,000

The successful candidate must demonstrate to Wellspring’s satisfaction that they meet one or more of the preferred qualifications before a premium can be added to the standard salary. Final salary is defined by Wellspring based on verifiable information and documentation provided by the candidate during the recruitment process.

Wellspring does not engage in wage negotiation as it contributes to pay inequity.

Experience Premium (only one of these options will be applicable)

  • 5 full years or more experience in an Accounting Manager position in an organization with at least $10 million in revenue or 3 – 4 full years of experience in an Accounting Manager position in an organization with at least $20 million in revenue = $2300 added to annual salary
  • 5 full years of experience in an Accounting Manager position in an organization with at least $20 million in revenue = $4600 added to annual salary
  • 3 full years or more experience in an Accounting Manager position in an organization with at least $30 million in revenue = $8000 added to annual salary

Certification Premiums (only one of these options will be applicable)

  • Chartered Global Management Accountant (CGMA) or Certified Management Accountant (CMA) = $2000 added to annual salary as long as certification is valid
  • Certified Public Accountant certification (CPA) = $4000 added to annual salary as long as certification is valid

Expected salary: $97000 per year
